It's official - NSW Weightlifting Head Quarters along with the Burwood Weightlifting Club High Performance Centre is relocating to Olympic Park within the State Sports Centre. The last competition of the year will be the Bruce Walsh Memorial in the name sake of the man who instigated the sport of weightlifting at the the Burwood Police Boys Club in 1967. In its 39 years, Burwood has produced hundred of champions, many becoming Olympians and other Commonwealth Games medallists. History will show that the "Burwood Weightlifting Club" had character, built self esteem, optimised elitism and was a home to many "a weightlifting family" whereby boys and girls became men and women respectively.

Congratulations must be extended to the three NSW athletes, Natasha Barker, Nadeene Latif and Valerie Sarava, who achieved glory for NSW and Australia by winning individually 2 bronze and 1 silver in the total respectively. Nadeene Latif was in devastating form by producing a personal best total of 152kg in securing five consecutive lifts and winning her the bronze medal. Natasha Barker, the veteran of the female weightlifting team and a triple silver medallist at Manchester 2002 and making a comeback after giving birth to a baby boy “Brandon”. Natasha performed like the ultimate professional athlete in securing five out of six attempts to go on and win the bronze medal and ending a lucrative career in weightlifting. “Natasha the sport will miss you.” Valerie Sarava, representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games for the first time, was hampered by a injury that he sustained on the 11th Feb at the Burwood Club Competition in his attempt to clean and jerk the Commonwealth record of 210kg, he sustained a 10cm tear in the VA (Vastus latertus) in the leg. He managed to overcome the pain barrier and produced a great silver medal against all adversity. A medal well earned and deserved. For NSW this was a terrific result—3 weightlifters—3 medals, it could not have gone better, according to the script. Let us not neglect to mention the great work done by the Australian coaching team and manager, who were represented by Head coach—Luke Borreggine, Coach Steve Tikkanen and Manager Ralph Cashman.
