Myths of Weightlifting

 

 

MYTH: I can't do weightlifting cause I am not strong enough!

FACT: Even through weightlifting is commonly seen as a strength based sport, it is actually a very technically demanding sport. Coaches will spend many months teaching a new person to lift weights correctly using the correct techniques and making sure that the athletes maintain their techniques. Once you have mastered the weightlifting movements strength can be developed through the use of assistance exercises.

 

MYTH: Weightlifting will make you bulky!

FACT: Due to the hormonal differences between men and women, women are able to develop strength through resistance exercise training without an excessive increase in muscle size or bulk. Many women who participate in the sport of weightlifting find that they have decreased excess body fat and have seen a reduction in their overall body size and shape.

 

MYTH: Weightlifting can injure your back!

FACT: Olympic Weightlifting techniques are safe and efficient, relying on the muscles in your legs and bottom to generate force. Weightlifting training would also include strength and stability training for both the abdominal and back muscles.
