The sport of Weightlifting promotes and develop many attributes for a healthy
body; speed, strength, agility, co-ordination, power, balance, etc. It is
mistakenly believed that "As we get older..." we lose these essential elements
of a vital and active life. However, closer to the
truth is that one loses these attributes through inactivity or discontinuing
active exercise.
Thanks to the NSW Weightlifting Association, mature athletes, whether from a
weightlifting background or not, have the opportunity to become involved in our
sport and enjoy the many physical benefits listed above that come from active
competition. Through participation in our sport, one can maintain the vigour of
body and mind and keep a strong enthusiastic hold on life.
In Weightlifting, women can compete as a Master from 30 years and over, men from
35 years. They compete in 5 year age groups in bodyweight categories in State,
Australian and international competitions.
So, if you're a former lifter or athlete from another sport or someone who just
wants to regain the vitality of youth, take this opportunity now to discover,
experience and benefit from what Masters Weightlifting can offer.
